Moon Bunny Boba

2022

As a lover of tea, especially bubble tea, I wanted to try designing my own brand for a boba tea store as a personal side project. This is both to try and create branding for food-related services, but also to continue improving my ability to design logos and animate them.

As Japanese themes are becoming increasingly popular here in the UK, as seen through stores such as Uniqlo and Miniso, but also through Japanese cuisine, I believed the most effective way of designing this brand would be through a Japanese-inspired style. Most boba stores have very minimalist styles, and many see them as something cute and aesthetic; which was something I wanted to focus on in my design: Cute yet simple.

The idea of the moon came from the shape of tapioca pearls used in boba tea, but I believed that alone would not be enough. When thinking further about the theme I decided to use one of the cutest animals out there as a mascot: a bunny.

While designing the packaging, I wanted to bring it a bit further than usual boba cups by designing something fitting for the logo.

As this would make it more difficult to use a

pre-made mockup, I decided to utilize Autodesk Maya for the creation and rendering of a cup perfect for the theme. Rather than using the usual tall cups, that many boba stores utilize, I decided to shorten it down, which made it more compact and cute but also decided to design the lid to look like a bunny, which made it stand out from other brands while making it more fitting for the brand.

The last step of this project was animating the logo. I wanted to keep the animation simple and cute to fit the brand and so I decided on simple and quick movements, as well as a lot of bouncing to really capture the energy of a bunny.
