Signs of Ealing

2020

During this academic project, I explored my location, investigated typographic styles found within it, and utilized my findings in order to create a new typeface to typeset the name of my location.

During my exploration, I found that Ealing did not have one set identity when it came to its typographic signs: there were old stone engravings in the park, quirky and fun logos for smaller establishments, and modern logos for big stores.

Because of this, I decided that my typeface would be a mixture between the new and old, Sans Serif and Serif, simplicity and complexity.

As I saw many engravings during my little adventure, I decided to present my typeface through one, and to add complexity to the design I decided to shape it after Walpole park: as it was a historical place that provided me with most of my references.
